Angelina Jolie and her Vietnamese adoption muddle
By now, you already know Angelina Jolie is keen on adopting another kid from a third-world nation. The Good Shepherd star, officially filed papers with the Vietnamese and US officials to become a Vietnamese child's sole guardian last week.
The 31-year-old star filed for adoption as a single parent, even though her boyfriend, Brad Pitt, has become the adoptive father of her five-year-old Cambodian son Maddox and two-year-old Ethiopian daughter Zahara. The couple also has a biological daughter Shiloh Novelle.
Why as a single parent? Where's Papa Pitt in all this, you ask? Well, the answer is simply to comply, or rather evade, with Vietnamese adoption laws. Under Vietnamese adoption laws, parents who are co-habiting cannot adopt.
International adoption official Tatiana Beams said:
This is a clear contradiction of Vietnamese law, and such situations would not be allowed for other couples. Most co-habiting couples who try to adopt as a single parent are either turned away from agencies or face difficulties.
Judging my Madge's speedy adoption of baby David, baby Shiloh Jolie-Pitt better make room for a new addition to the ever-growing salt-n-pepper Jolie-Pitt clan.
