American Christians Heart African Tyrants

POLITICS. .

How I hate America's Christian Right...let me count the ways.

Beyond the fact that they are primitive fanatics these people work to prop up some of the most atrocious dictatorships in the world...and in the name of the 'Prince of Peace', no less!

Right now the Evangelical Right in Americastan is backing a law, so called, in Uganda which will outlaw homosexuality with the penalty being death. These same right-wing fundamentalists then have the temerity to decry Muslim fundamentalists for their aversion to violence (more on that later) when gays in Uganda have been killed due to the public efforts by a many Christian kooks.

And the doyen of America's Religious Right, the hoodlum rat Pat Robertson, was a business partner with Liberia's Charles Taylor, one of the most bloody and notorious of African dictator who is currently in the Hague for international war crime charges.

And of the their biggest causes is supporting Christian forces with extra fervor if their opponents happen to be Muslims, even when neither party is sectarian the Christian Right in this country will still do sectarianism for them. Thus Pat Robertson's network operated a studio in the offices of the South Lebanese Army, a mostly Christian collaborationist (with Israel) force waged in a futile and lost war with the Shi'a Muslim Hezbollah.

But recently there is the Ivory Coast:

"It is impossible to know for sure if the group sided with Mr. Gbagbo because he is a Christian; his rival, Alassane Ouattara, recognized internationally as the winner of last year’s presidential election, is a Muslim. But to judge by the recent comments of Senator James M. Inhofe of Oklahoma, the Rev. Pat Robertson, the Christian broadcaster, and Glenn Beck, the Fox News television personality, religion did play a role in their support.

As a member of the Senate Armed Services and Foreign Relations Committees, Mr. Inhofe, a Republican, is known for his interest in African affairs. He visited Ivory Coast nine times and knew Mr. Gbagbo and his wife, Simone. On March 30, as the Obama administration was joining the rest of the world in pressuring Mr. Gbagbo to step aside, Mr. Inhofe sent a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, asking her to demand new elections in Ivory Coast. Mr. Inhofe said the November election results were fraudulent. Asked about Mr. Inhofe’s interest in Ivory Coast, Jared Young, a spokesman, said Friday that the senator and the African leader had met during the senator’s travels abroad, and that “the Gbagbos have participated in the National Prayer Breakfast” in Washington “and Senator Inhofe is involved in the National Prayer Breakfast.” The National Prayer Breakfast has been held every year since 1953. It is operated by a group known as the Fellowship, a secretive evangelical Christian organization that some say has a right-wing agenda. In 2010, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a government watchdog group, asked that President Obama and Congressional leaders skip the event. They did not. Later on Friday, speaking by telephone, Mr. Inhofe said of Mr. Gbagbo, “We are both Christian, but I also have close relationships with a lot of presidents who are Muslim.”"

The amusing thing is that 1) Ivory Coast is 60% Muslim and neither the ousted strongman or his elected successor ran on explicitly sectarian platforms. And this was not a Christian vs. Muslim affair, since Muslims by sheer force of majority would win that, but simply a power feud dealing with vested interests and attachments to perquisites. But the Christian Right cannot help itself and see everything as a religious clash when none is necessarily present. Christians and Muslims cross party lines in Ivory Coast, and the overthrown leader had Muslim supporters and vise-versa.

2) These idiots never hesitate to interfere in the most atrocious ways in Muslim majority countries and seek to impose their will by way of direct arms or fundraising and lobbying and then have the nerve to condemn Muslims for allegedly seeking to impose their ways on Americans. It is projection: They fanatics and kooks wants to dictate to Muslims and then they accuse Muslims of wanting to dictate to them!

3) Lastly, though somewhat irrelevant, I think Inhofe is making an oblique statement that he thinks Obama, his president, is also a Muslim.

A miserable lot.
