AIFW demands CBI probe into custodial rape
A woman aged 45 years, who was arrested on charges of dowry harassment, was allegedly gang-raped by four cops inside a police station in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh.

Police claimed that she was arrested and produced before a court after her daughter-in-law accused her of dowry harassment. When the court refused to grant her bail, she was taken back to the Amla police station and the same night, four policemen, allegedly raped her.
The DIG has suspended the Inspector and an FIR has been lodged against the four accused policemen, who were on duty that night. But none of the accused were arrested even after 4 days. The cops claimed that they were investigating and the lady was being medically examined.
The woman's daughter-in-law complained of dowry harassment in the last week of May. Following the complaint, the woman was arrested on June 2 and was produced in the court on the same day. The following day, she complained to jail superintendent that she had been gang-raped by four policemen inside the Amla police station. She lodged a written complaint to the jail authorities. The accused policemen, however, denied the rape charge.
Meanwhile, the AIFW, an organisation fighting for gender equality and draconian laws has condemned the incident. It has written to the Prime Minister of India demanding a CBI Investigation into the case of alleged rape of the elderly woman and immediate notification of The Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill, 2008 which would weed out unnecessary arrests and which would make it mandatory for police to follow procedures before an arrest.
