Ahmadinejad's Wife Claims U.N. Promotes "Illicit Affairs"
Here's even more proof that Iran's leadership is either full of lunatics or people who are doing their very best to provoke the West. Iran judiciously backed out of its bid to join the UN's Council For Human Rights, but then immediately turned around and requested membership in the UN's Commission For The Protection Of Women's Rights. Both requests are laughable considering Iran's abysmal track record in both human and women's rights, and with the continuous stream of bizarre statements that issue forth from Iran, it only further supports the judgement that they should not be allowed anywhere near a 'rights' commission.

With each idiotic comment by one of the many Ayatollahs, or by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, I'm convinced these people are not of this planet. And it's not just the men guilty of lunacy, Ahmadinejad's wife came out with a good one today. Ahmadinejad usually loves to blame the U.S. (better known as the Great Satan) for pretty much everything, but in this case his dutiful wife, Azam-ol-Sadat Farahi, blamed the United Nations for its nasty promotion of "illicit affairs." If course, it's the Western factions within the U.N. that are primarily culpable.
"Westerners exploit the United Nations structure to promote illicit affairs," Azam-ol-Sadat Farahi told a conference of Muslim women thinkers on Tuesday without elaborating.
"The family, which is the main pillar of every society, has collapsed in the West and they are seeking to extend their problem to the Islamic world by spreading decadent schemes," she said.
"Westerners pursue their improper schemes under the name of development and (alleviating) social discrimination," she added.
Of course, it's difficult to determine whether she meant 'affairs' as in love or extra-marital, or 'affairs' as in circumstances, but wither way it's absolutely baseless. And what schemes, one has to wonder? The U.N.'s attempt to feed the poor? I have no love for the U.N. but trying to pin on the U.N. some nefarious, western plot to ruin the Islamic world is just plain silly. Yes, women's rights are important, and yes the west will continue to fight for the rights of all humans, but continuing to oppress citizens, both males and females, isn't going to win you a spot on any U.N. commission, a Nobel Peace prize or a place in heaven. Most enlightened Muslims claim that the Quran speaks of women being equal to men, it's about time the others start following that edict. Unless, of course, it isn't true.
