Agriculture: Wheat production will suffer
It has been reported in media that this year wheat production from Punjab will be affected due to excessive heat in this month. Dy. Chief Minister has gone on record to say that the effect could be to the tune of about 20%. This fact puts lots of question before us. What would happen to our agriculture growth and expectations of the Govt. that this sector should do well in next few years and must register growth of over 4%. We are facing a serious situation.

If second green revolution does take place, then we certainly can not feed this ever increasing population. There are reported death due to malnutrition and hunger in various parts of the country. Let this situation does not go out of control.
I think our scientific community is obliged to find out of box solution for this situation. They have very important task on their hands and they must emerge winner. Also, it is equally prudent for the people associated with crop management that proper inputs are in place to ensure proper crop in next season. Farmers should be again encouraged to go in for wheat crop. Govt. should also think of giving right produce price for the wheat.
It is necessary that some price regulatory body should be put in place by the Central Govt. for agriculture produces. Farmers can not be left on the mercy of God.
Some critics have gone on record to say that the farm sector and storage systems do not use modern technologies then our nation could be in deep troubles. So, timely action is the right solution. Let there be not surprises as this year had happened. Our Agriculture Minister has sprung so many surprises which had spiral effect on the prices. Luckily, the last report of the market is good and has resulted in drop of price index on the whole. But every time this may not happen.
