Afghan Immigrants’ Properties to be confiscated in Pakistan
Pakistan’s interior Ministry is set to carry out a countrywide operation against all Afghan immigrants who own property (-ies) in Pakistan particularly in the city of Peshawar.

Today’s newspapers narrate the objectives and mechanisms of this operation. Afghan immigrants have dwelt in Pakistani cities since the invasion of Afghanistan by former USSR in 1979. They have established mini-mega businesses and own property (-ies) worth tens of millions of Rupees. At the same time, some have also obtained Pakistani National Identity cards to show themselves as Pakistani citizens while buying and selling properties. Though Pakistan has been housing Afghan refugees, in the local terminology ‘Afghan Muhajireen’, for the last four decades but Pakistan has never had a policy of integrating Afghans into its societies. None from millions of refugees have been awarded citizenship legally though some might have married Pakistani spouses and have become Pakistani citizens yet the overwhelming majority still remains refugees.
The Pakistani Intelligence Agencies have been directed to start an operation and in the first step compile data of such Afghans who own properties. In the same operation property dealers have been given a major role. As award to those Property Dealers who point out Afghans who own properties, thirty percent of the total price of the property will be given to the Property Dealer.
The operation has been decided but a date has yet to be decided for launching it. It’s most probable that it might take effect from the third week of this month. This puts the hard earned life of the few lucky Afghans at risk at least economically.
