Afghan Elections and its Impacts on Pakistan
The results of the Afghan elections are yet to be announced but are very important not on to the Afghans but Pakistan as well. There is a major rift between the Karzai and Dr. Abdullah Abdullah regarding the outcome of the elections.

Both of them are closing on each other as more counts are coming out. Pakistan is keen about it as either of the two can change her ties with the Afghanistan. Looking at the past experience with Karzai, I would not say that it has been exemplary because of his backing for the drug mafia and his brother’s direct involvement in it have been the great concerns of Pakistan Government. There has been a tremendous increase in smuggling along the Afghan border. These and so many other factors are undoubtedly troubling authorities here.
Despite these factors, Karzai remains in the better interest of Pakistan in comparison to Dr.Abdullah Abdullah. He has an unambiguous fondness towards India and has had close ties with them. His election would not in fact be in favor of Pakistan.
Dr. Abdullah would certainly intend to further strengthen his ties with India and that means influx of Indian nationals in Afghanistan. This certainly is alarming for Pakistan’s security as we are already facing the music due mushroom rate growth of Indian consulates close to the border area.
Pakistan has to keep a check on the Indian actions, not only on the eastern border but on the Afghan side as well. Let’s wait for the outcome and hope for the finest for both countries.
