Afghan civilians caught in Taliban crossfire: Who is to blame?

LIFESTYLE. .

Taliban, meaning seekers of knowledge, but consider their current guerilla war tactics against the US and NATO forces in Afghanistan and it is difficult to ascertain what kind of knowledge these seekers rummage around for, which forces them to kill their very own kith and kin and justify the action as legitimate.

Denial is a sure argument of the crooked and Taliban proves that this notion is pertinent as their recent target have been girl schools, Human Rights Watch in their latest report point out, but Taliban has dismissed this report as disinformation and western propaganda.

Indeed, Taliban believes that it is the Big Brother and its Coalition led forces that slay the Afghani civilians in their bombings and operations throughout the country but the Human Rights watch fails to watch that, clearly depicting that Taliban believes this is a bias testimony.

What do the Stats Say?

Hardnosed Taliban Militia

2006 has been the bloodiest year with an estimated 4000 people killed and Afghan Officials say about a quarter of them were civilians.

Amnesty International believes atleast 756 civilians were killed last year, by bombs mostly on roads or carried by suicide bombers.

The New York-based human rights group relates at least 669 civilian deaths to about 350 separate armed attacks carried out by Taliban

There were 136 suicide-bombing attacks in Afghanistan in 2006, which was more than six times the attacks carried out in 2005, and all these were anticipated to multiply fear amid the civilians.

The Foreign Hand

More than 1000 Civilians were killed as per NATO, few of which suffered because of the NATO Air Strikes.

US Mariners broke the law last month when they killed 12 civilians and injured a few others in apparently an arbitrary shelling in Jalalabad after their fleet was bombed.

The 116-page document titled the Human Cost condemns foreign troops for excessive use of force, which was proving fatal for the civilians.

Who is to Blame!

Taliban insurgents use a tactic called 'Perfidy' whereby they masquerade themselves as civilians which allow bombers to approach US and NATO troops unobserved, thus creating a situation for themselves in which the troops are predominantly cagey of civilians around them . Atleast 230 Civilians were killed during Coalition or NATO Operations in 2006 in part because of the confusion.

Taliban believes they are not killing any civilians rather they justify their cause by mentioning that they are only killing the Afghani officials who are supporting the cause of foreign forces. In relevance to the up surging of the schools and other educational institutions, Taliban believes that teachers who preach Islam will never be on their target but the others who are behind the avant-garde education should take heed and stop preaching the same for the consequences could be fatal.

The US may magnetize support for themselves from the international community because they are drawn into confusion as a consequence of the Perfidy tactic. Taliban could persist to decline the carnage of their fellow men but the Human Rights Watch reveals that the consequence of this agitation is the loss of innocent lives.

The Human Rights Watch report has tried to bring out the plight of the noble Afghan people trapped between the insurgent Taliban forces and the US led NATO forces entrusted with the task of providing security in the war-torn country. To permit the civilian populace with some semblance of peace in their lives, the security forces as well as the Taliban should stop targeting innocent people for settling scores. It's hard to make the Taliban accountable for the 'war crimes' they commit but the NATO forces could avoid having military installations in crowded civilian areas lest they too become victims of the next suicide bomber seeking to target the security forces.

The report has attempted to reallocate the focus on the war from its judicious demeanor of who is right and who is wrong to the consequences, which the natives of Afghanistan are facing. It depicts how the war ethics have been escalated by involving civilians in the name of war.

Lives that draw no familiarity with this war, for they want to live and their love for life is their only desire irrespective of who rules, the Taliban or the coalition forces supported by Afghan government, they just want a surrounding that doesn't beckon bereavement.
