Abortion should be parental decision
A Mumbai couple challenged the law of abortion in India, claiming that their unborn child is already suffering from some congenital disorder. In an appeal filed in Mumbai court couple argued that it will be difficult for them to live a healthy life, while the upcoming child is inevitably unhealthy.

Rejecting the plea court said the law enacted in 1971under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act does not allow an abortion beyond 20 weeks of pregnancy.
This subject of abortion is long time debated in India, but this incident infused new debate on the legality of abortion.
A section supporting the abortion firmly believes that it should be the parents’ decision if the unborn child which is anticipated to be unhealthy.
The other arugment is that if people will be allowed for abortion it may lead to misuse of law which could cause already declining sex ratio in the country.
In my point of view if the unborn child’s health is at risk the parents must be allowed to abort. It is for the parents to decide their healthy life. How can they live a healthy life when having a physically challenged child?
There is also an urgent need to amend the law as when it was introduced 37 years back there was no facility to check the foetus health status.
