A youngster whistling at girl in Cinema Hall = Molester DGP Rathod - That's what law says!
Surprising but true!!!
Yesterday, I was listening to a discussion program on All India Radio, between Urmi Goswami - Journalist & Amit Khemka - Supreme Court Advocate

Since all of us are more or less aware about the story of Ruchika & her Molester SPS Rathod, a DGP and a powerful figure in Haryana; I will not go at length in the background and current status of the case
The point, that came as a startling revealation to me during the discussion was a very well thought out argument by Mr. Khemka
He said that the earlier punishment to SPS Rathod of 6 months have been extended to 18 months now, under a particular section of Indian Penal Code
However, that section is more generic in nature and doesn't take into account the severity of the instance, the resultatn impact of the instance and the overall repurcussion of the same
Although he agreed that 18 months of imprisonment will serve as a deterrent, he made few very good points
1) This imprisonment of 18 months will definitely serve as deterrent for all those normal, sane people who have a sense of being shameful...For such pervert persons like Rathore, this may not make any deterrent and hence the punishment should have been higher!!!
2) If you want to have higher punishment for Rathore, a different section need to be applied on him, since the current section treats a youngster whistling at girl in Cinema Hall similary to a person of a high rank like Rathod who had molested a girsl, harassed her and her family so much that ultimately it forced the girl to committ suicied
He has both the points very valid and eye- opening
What's your view, dear reader?
