Mountaineering officials say a 76-year-old Nepalese man has scaled Mount Everest to become the oldest person to climb the world’s highest mountain.
Nepal’s Tourism Ministry official Ramesh Chetri says Min Bahadur Sherchan reached the 8,850-meter or 29,035-foot summit early Sunday morning with his climbing guides.
He is in good health and was safely coming down the icy slopes.
Sherchan beat the record set last year by Japanese climber Katsusuke Yanagisawa, who scaled the peak at age 71.
