It was earlier reported that over 3000 Afghans have been sentenced to death by the Iranian Supreme Court. An outcry in the parliament was followed by an order from the Chairman/Speaker of (Wolasi Jirga)the Afghan Lower House of Parliament to the Ministry of Justice to do the follow up pertaining to these cases and bring back all sentenced Afghans to Afghanistan at any cost.
Today the Parliament was told by its members from the western province of Herat bordering Iran that at least 45 Afghans have been hanged in the last three days and their bodies have been handed over to their families in Herat.
Abdul Salam Qazi zada, a member of parliament from Herat while insisting on the truth of his findings said that the local population could bear witness. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, however, have confirmed the execution of only three Afghans in the recent days.
Mr. Qazi zada has warned that the figures could rise steadily.
Iranians are notorious for executions especially for those involving the trafficking of drugs into or out of their land.
The Afghan Human Rights Commission has strongly condemned the recent developments and has voiced its concerns appealing to the UN and International Human Rights Commission to seriously take notice of the situation and pressurize Iran to reconsider its decisions.
