Several people are injured and a train operator is trapped after a rush-hour collision between two trains outside Boston.

A spokesman for the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority says there are multiple injuries in Wednesday evening’s accident above ground in Newton.

Joe Pesaturo says one train hit the back of another that had just begun to move after stopping at a signal near a station.

He says workers are trying to free the seriously injured operator of the second train. He says one passenger was flown to a hospital after the accident.
