Mexican officials have identified 12 bodies found dumped in Michoacan state as off-duty federal intelligence officers who were ambushed by a drug cartel they were investigating.
The bound, blindfolded and tortured bodies of the 11 men and one woman were found piled one on top the other last night at the junction of the Siglo 21 Lázaro Cárdenas-Morelia and Nuevo Centro de Población highways, in the town of La Huacana. Public security spokesman, Monte Alejandro Rubido, said they were ambushed and executed by the La Familia cartel. Earlier reports said the bodies were those of soldiers.
Michoacan and surrounding states have been under La Familia cartel fire since Sunday after agents arrested Arnoldo Rueda, one of La Familia Michocana's most powerful, top earning, leaders.
