District level science camp at JNV Darrang

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya,(JNV) Kalaigaon organised a two days science camp in its Kalaigaon campus for the students of Darrang and Udalguri districts on February 5 and 6.The purpose of the camp was to create scientific temperament in students mind for the removal of blind believe and superstitions from the society.Eleven schools namely – JNV,Kalaigaon; Kalaigaon Girls HS; Bholabari HS; Arunodoi Academy, Tangla; Mangaldai Govt.HSS; Mangaldai Girls HSS; Sipajhar HSS & MPS; Kurua HSS; Deomornoi HSS; Uttar Mangaldai HS and Kendriya Vidyalaya,Mangaldai participated in the camp. Science based competitions like -poster drawing,extempore speech,model seminar,quiz and interactive session with resource persons were arranged for the students.
Madhab Sarma,principal JNV Kalaigaon formally inaugurated the camp on February 5 at 9 AM. On the occasion he said that the competitions had been a good platform for students to share their ideas with students of other schools. Emily Barua,EAC,Darrang formally inaugurated the science based competitions on February 6 at 10 AM.Arabinda Das,Principal Kalaigaon College attended the opening session as the guest of honour. Ruprekha Sarma,Principal,Tangla Bed College;Golap Ahmed Hussain of Arunodoi Academy Junior science College,Tangla and Keshab Saharia Asstt.Coordinator of ASC,Kalaigaon conducted all the competitions as judges.
An interactive session was held after the inauguration of second days programme.Jayanta Kumar Das,District NCSC Coordinator,Udalguri interacted with students on the matter of pollution.A grand cultural programme was organised by the students of the participating schools to much delight of the people present. Col.AK Bora,Commanding Officer of 65 Field Regiment,Mangaldai inaugurated the open prize distribution session at 2 PM. Thanking the participating students Col.Bora said that although he had been a student of Assamese medium school ,he never felt any problem in the learning process.He requested students to actively take part in the extra curricular activities so as to make them fit face the challanges of present day life. Senior journalist and Hony. Wildlife Warden of Darrang also attended the open session as the guest of honour.
Followings are the results of the science competitions- In science based extempore speech competition Upamanyoo Das (Arunodoi Academy,Tangla) and Karabi Bania (JNV,Kalaigaon) jointly won the first prize while Tapashri Sarma and Upasana Hazarika (Mangaldai Girls HSS) won second and third prizes. In science based poster drawing- Chinmoy Raj Saikia (Kendriya Vidyalaya,Mangaldai) won the first prize while Upasana Hazarika( Mangaldai Girls HSS) won second prize.Third prize won jointly by Bhargab Jyoti Hazarika (JNV Kalaigaon )and Sumitra Chouhan (Kalaigaon Girls HS).In the science based quiz-Maurya Raj Barua and Bipul Deka (JNV,Kalaigaon) won first prize while Upamanyoo Das (Arunodoi Academy,Tangla)and Jayanta Debnath (Bholabari HS) won second prize. Nishi Ranjan K.Mallika and Hirak Jyoti Nath (Sipajhar HSS & MPS)won third prize in this event.
