The Punjab and Haryana High Court reduced the tension between Sikhs and dera followers by granting interim bail to head of Dera Sacha Sauda Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh today. Earlier, Prakash Singh Badal government in Punjab had given the order to arrest Dera chief on June 28.

The state government had said that it had given the order according to the court’s order. According to the report, a session court Duty Magistrate A L Khitchi in Bhatinda had issued a conditional bailable arrest warrant against Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh for allegedly hurting Sikh sentiments on June 20.

On Friday, the Dera had filed an application in the Punjab and Haryana High Court for interim bail for Dera chief. It had also urged to nullify the Bhatinda court’s non-bailable arrest warrant that was issued against its head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.

Agter the government order, Dera followers marched a protest rally and reached the Sirsa-Barnala road. After then, the protestors marched in a procession to the office of District Commissioner V Umashankar to submit a memorandum.

The Dera followers have also written a letter to president APJ Abdul Kalam and demanded to dismiss the Punjab government. They blamed the Punjab government for politically manipulating the matter.

The matter of government’s order to arrest Dera chief also rocked the Punjab Assembly today when the Opposition Congress forcing adjournment for the day in house.

In the meantime, the Dera chiefs scheduled visit to Meerut city has been postponed till fresh schedule. He is currently under tight security provided by the Haryana police and personal security guards.
