Cracking Interviews- Be a sure shot winner

“Facing interviews can never be a difficult task if you know the way to convince some one of the opposite gender.” Thats what I always tell my students who ask me the best ways to crack an interview. In a job interview, you should know which place to hit, to make the interviewer fall on face{Not literally}.

To start with, take a piece of paper and write down what all you will say while proposing some one you love and want to spend your whole life with. When you start writing, you observe that you are doing a counter spell to all the attacks made at you. And in the end, the girl/boy says yes for a relationship. Its the same art you need to use while facing an interview. When asked to tell something about yourself, tell what is necessary and related to work and academics which can make you perform well at work. Why would your girlfriend want to know what do you do in office, the same way, why would your boss want to know about your hobbies or what your father does.

Taking it forward, as I told to one of the best groups I ever trained, relate everything of yours with the job profile. I mean, your strengths should be told and related to the profile you are applying for. For example: I have been an athlete so I am sure I can always be on my toes moving all around to see if my team is working properly. I am a team player to see that every one working the way I want them to, which my profile demands. Relate your whole life with the profile and the company as if you were born to work for this particular organization.

Coming to the negatives, always mention what have you done to come above them. For example, I was very unorganized but now I keep a diary to remember everything and answer all my mails on time which helps me being organized always. Notice, negative was past. Don’t say you never had any weakness, but tell as if it had worked upon and it no more prevails.

Next question which arises is- “Why this company?” Its more than simple to relate the purpose of your life to the mission statement of the company. For this you will have to do some homework by searching and studying a bit about the organization online. The moment one relates the purpose of one’s life with the aim or mission statement of the company, half the battle is won.

Always back your answers with stories, examples and real life situations. Until you do so, nothing above can help.

While telling you strengths or overcoming your weakness, you have to relate a short story to make it sound real. The same is to be done while answering “why this company” and relating your purpose.

Last but not the least, the most common question which comes up is “Why should we choose you?” As you have told your strengths already in starting, now you need to touch every aspect of the profile, relating your strengths to each of those aspects and how will it be a child’s play for you to do everything your profile demands. This would prove how will you become a real asset for the firm if they chose you.

The mantra is simple “Tell them what they want to listen” and congratulations, You have been selected for the Job.
