Sanjay Dutt and Amir Khan are known be close friends in real life though the contemporaries have never starred in a single movie together. However, the two screen legends are set to rewrite history as they are cast together as leading men in Peekay, the upcoming movie by Rajkumar Hirani.
Hirani has previously worked with Amir Khan in “3 Idiots” in 2009 which resulted in global commercial and critical success for two. Hirani’s association with Sanjay Dutt goes way back to the beginning of his filmmaking career as he debuted in the industry with the actor who played the title role in “Munna Bhai, MBBS” in 2003. The duo joined forces for the 2006 sequel to movie “Lage Raho Munna Bhai” which was yet another blockbuster.
Even though the plotline of Peekay remains undisclosed, sourced say that Amir Khan is set to play and idealistic in the movie who struggles with alcohol abuse while Sanjay Dutt plays a villager from Rajasthan who has his own unique take on the situation. The story of the movie revolves around the corruption that has become a part of religion in the country.
Sources suggest that Hirani had initially cast Arshad Warsi for the role that Sanjay Dutt was later offered though the former had to decline since the dates that Hirani wanted clashed with Warsi’s shooting schedule for “Dedh Isqiya”, the sequel to hit movie “Ishqiya” currently being shot by Vishal Bhardwaj. As always, there are plenty of rumors suggesting that Amir has demanded a rewriting of the script after he found out that the plotline of Peekay shared a lot of similarities with the recently released “OMG! Oh My God” starring Paresh Rawal.
The female lead in the movie is being played by Anushka Sharma. The supporting male actor slot is yet to be filled though names like Imran Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor and even new comer Sushant Singh Rajput are also being touted for the role.
