Akshay and Twinkle Charged with Obscenity

Bollywood stars Akshay Kumar and his wife Twinkle Khanna have been charged with obscenity after they made an objectionable move before the audience in a Mumbai fashion, last week. According to news sources, a social campaigner Anil Nair filed a complaint of obscenity against the Bollywood couple and the organizers of the show – Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) – when Akshay and his wife Twinkle did an obscene act in the show. akshay rgmYN 17659

According to details, Akshay Kumar was on a ramp walk, presenting Levi’s Unbuttoned designs of jeans, in the fashion show in Mumbai. His wife Twinkle Khanna was seated in the front row of audience. Up on reaching in front of her, Akshay approached Twinkle and asked her to unbutton his jeans – which she did, inviting the grievance of some people. Later, the police received a complaint from Anil Nair and registerd a case against the film stars and the organizers of the show under IPC Section 294 – banning obscene acts and songs. Akshay has meanwhile apologized for indecency.

Obscenity in Indian law is punishable by a maximum imprisonment of two years along with monetary fine of 2000 rupees. The other notable case of obscenity was registered in 2007, when Bollywood beauty Shilpa Shetty was hugged and kissed by Hollywood star Richard Gere at an AIDS awareness event. The case was later dropped.
