Are you one of those people who can spend hours driving around, has a great sense of direction, and loves getting to spend time listening to their favorite music or podcasts? If so, you probably think it would be great if you could earn some money while doing something you love. Luckily for you, there are some great jobs you can do that involve mostly driving, allowing you to earn some money while you’re on the road.
Food Delivery
One of the first jobs that come to mind when people think of jobs that involve driving is delivering food. Chances are there is a restaurant in your area that delivers food to their clients, and you would be able to find a job with them. If there is nothing available at the moment, these jobs tend to have a high turnover rate, so it probably won’t be long until something opens up. In order to be a food delivery driver, you need to have a good car, know your way around the area, and be able to do some basic math while on the go. If you can do all of this, a food delivery job can be a great way to earn some money.
Package Delivery
If you don’t like the prospect of delivering food, or if there are no restaurants in your area hiring, you can also deliver packages. Major package companies like UPS and FedEx need drivers, or you can see if your local post office is hiring. If you want to work on a more freelance-based basis, Amazon is now hiring drivers in some markets to deliver their same-day packages. For this type of job you’d need your own car, and again would need to know your way around the area.
Truck Driving
Perhaps you want to drive something a little bigger than your car. If so, and you don’t mind long hours, then truck driving could be the thing for you. Truck drivers are needed all over the country to haul things from one location to another and the demand will likely be in place for years to come. There are plenty of different types of trucking jobs you can get – from tow truck jobs to flatbed trucking jobs to refrigerated freight driving jobs. You’ll likely need a special license to drive the bigger machinery, so keep this in mind when looking for a job.
Rideshare Programs
Another thing you can move from one location to another is people. For years this industry was dominated by cab drivers and car services – and while these companies are certainly still around – the market is now open to those people who want to do this on their own schedule. If you want to pick your own hours, and like the idea of bringing people from one location to the next, then consider signing up for a rideshare program like Lyft or Uber. You can decide when you want to work, who you pick up, and how much time you spend driving. Depending on where you live, and the hours you’re willing to put in, many people are making a full-time income working for these companies.
Teach Others To Drive
Finally, if you want to help pass the joy of driving onto others, consider becoming a driving instructor. Instructors are always needed who are willing to go out with young kids – who have never driven before – and show them the ropes. This will often include spending most of your day in the car, showing kids how to drive. Each state varies in its requirements to be a driving instructor, but this is another job that gives you some flexibility on when you have to work.
Getting Paid To Drive
If you’re going to spend time driving around, you might as well be getting paid for it. There are plenty of opportunities out there for people who love to drive to earn some money. Since not everyone is cut out to sit in a car or truck for hours on end, you might as well put your enjoyment of it to good use before self driving cars put us all out of work.
