2012 was a year of horrors in more ways than one. Here are some of the most outrageous incidents that shook the nation through the year.
1. Delhi Gangrape
Date: December 16, 2012
Victim: Damini AKA Delhi Braveheart (pseudonyms)
Culprits: Ram Singh, Mukesh, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma and Akshay Thakur
What went down?
While returning home late at night, a 23-year old female physiotherapist and her male friend boarded a bus where 6 men assaulted the two and gangraped the female and subjected her a number of demonic cruelties before throwing both of both semi-clad off the moving bus. The female victim eventually succumbed to her injuries on December 29, 2012.
2. Norway child Custody Row
Date: January, 2012
Victims: Anurup and Sagarika Bhattacharya
Culprits: Norwegian Child Protection Service
What went down?
In January, 2012, a laeading English daily in india reported the sotry of Anurup and Sagarika Bhattacharya, based in Norway, whose children, Aishwarya and Abhigyan, were removed from their custody and placed in foster care by the Norwegian Child Protection Service. The agency accused the parents of being unfit of caring for the kids.
3. Mumbai women arrested over Facebook post

Victims: Shaheen Dhada and Renu Srinivasan
Culprits: Mumbai Police
What went down?
After Shiv Sena leader Bala Saheb Thakrey’s death, the party organized a city-wide bandh. Shaheen Dhada, 21, wrote posted a comment condoning the shutdown and her friend Renu Srinivasan “liked” the comment. Both women were arrested by Mumbai Police who booked them under a number of charges including “creating or promoting enmity”.
4. Rs 500 crore Stock Guru India con
Date: November 13, 2012
Victims: Two lakh people across India
Culprits: Ulhas Prabhakar Khaire and Raksha Urs
What went down?
The Ratnagiri, Maharashtra natives were found to have assumed more than 13 false identities to con people across the country of more than Rs. 500 Crores by promising them astronomical returns on investments in the stock market through their (fake) firm Stock Guru India.
5. Wisconsin Gurudrawa Shooting
Date: August 5, 2012
Victims: Sikh devotees; 6 dead, 4 injured
Culprit: Wade Michael Page
What went down?
A white supremacist and US Army veteran Wade Michael Page opened fire at devotees inside a gurudrawa in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, U.S.A, killing 6 and injuring 4 before shooting himself.
