2-year-old James Bulger’s Killer Jon Venables Gets Star Treatment In Jail For Child Pornography Charges

In 1993, Jon Venables and his friend Robert Thompson did something absolutely horrific. The 10-year-olds decided they wanted to abduct a little boy and do him harm. So, Venable and Thompson trolled the local Liverpool shopping mall in search of a victim. When they spied 2-year-old James Patrick Bulger standing in the doorway of the butcher shop, where his mum was placing an order, they lured the little boy away, out into the streets and eventually wound up abusing, torturing and killing the young lad. What they did to him is beyond imaginable. And although they were tried as adults, both Venables and Thompson were released in 2001. A mere 8 years for their truly hideous crime. Thompson, considered psychotic, never once felt an ounce of remorse. Venables did apologize, at one point, but who knows if he really felt any remorse. And although there was evidence that there had been sexual abuse, it was never brought up in court. The boys were obviously troubled and although they went through what is deemed as intensive rehabilitation, it obviously didn’t work.

Even though everyone thought that Venables, of the two, was the most likely to make a go of his life, he turned to drugs and alcohol and is back in jail after 9 years of freedom on charges of child pornography. And we all know child pornography is one-step away from actually physically acting out on those impulses.

What is most troubling is that both Venables and Thompson, for all the brutality with which they mutilated and tortured a 2-year-old boy, were handled with kid gloves. I suppose some believe that because they were children themselves they should somehow be held less accountable for their actions. But most serial killers start out as young children. Usually they begin with animal cruelty- torturing and killing animals. They eventually graduate to humans as they become adults. These boys seemed to skip the animal torture and started off with a human. Then again perhaps they had done that as well.

Apparently the preferential treatment has continued for Venables.

Prison warders guarding Jon Venables have been given a four-page rulebook on how to treat him with “compassion”.

The step-by-step manual of “Do’s and Dont’s” encourages officers to strike up a conversation with James Bulger’s killer…but bans them from talking to him about his crime.

Warders must also make sure Venables has no contact with other inmates – and isn’t even seen by them.

They must let him out of his cell and into the exercise yard daily but only when the rest of the prisoners are inside. And he must be accompanied by six warders at all times.

On some evenings he is allowed to use their staff room, which has had a TV put in just for him and a selection of board games. Last week he was given a brush and paint so he can decorate it how he wants.

Warders have also been instructed to give in to any requests he makes for sweets, newspapers and magazines.

And Venables is also allowed out of his cell for one-to-one tuition with a teacher. A prison source said: “Officers have been told exactly what they can and can’t talk to him about and when he’s allowed out of his cell.

“Some of them can’t believe the way they’re having to tip-toe around him. He’s being treated like royalty. The bosses are clearly paranoid about anything happening to him.”

Venables and Robert Thompson were 10 when they murdered James, two, in Liverpool in 1993. They were freed on licence with secret identities in 2001.

The Sunday Mirror revealed how Venables, 27, was recalled to prison at the end of February on suspicion of downloading child porn.

He is being kept in a segregation cell and, before the manual was introduced, warders were banned from speaking to him. In the past few days he has been enjoying visits from his family.

No decision has been taken by the Crown Prosecution Service over whether he should be charged.

Venables’ case file was handed to the parole board earlier this week to decide whether he should be kept in prison.

But a decision on whether he will be released is not likely to be taken for several months. If Venables is to face criminal charges over child porn allegations he would face that trial first before a parole board meets.

And not only is he being treated like royalty, he’s enjoying the fact that people are catering to him, taunting the prison guards with the fact that he believes he will soon be free and
refusing to cooperate.

Jon Venables is acting as if he is untouchable and revelling in his notoriety for murdering the two-year-old.

He has rejected treatment with a sex offenders’ programme, despite allegedly possessing child porn – sneering that he will not be inside long enough to complete it.

And he is defying threats by inmates who rumbled the secret new identity he was given on his release. He is getting preferential treatment to foil revenge attacks and brags: “I can take all the abuse.”

Sources told the Mirror: “Venables is now walking around prison as if he owns the place.”

If he is indeed released, considering the fact that he refuses anger management and sex offender therapy, the courts will be responsible for anything that happens in the future. There are some people that are intrinsically evil, and in no way rehabilitatable. Ticking time bombs ready to explode. Jon Venables seems to be one of those people. As for the remorseless Robert Thompson? We’ve not heard anything about him, yet. Then again, he has a new i.d. so who knows what evil he has been up to.
